Step/Dir Servo Spindle Kicking My Butt - No Reverse

I've spent months trying to get a step/dir servo spindle working, and am asking for any help I can get.  It's a DMM DYN4 drive and 750w motor, and I'm running a 7i76e controller.I have forward speeds (M3) working properly, but M4 commands are completely ignored. The spindle doesn't move, and nothing related to reverse  (or the spindle for that matter) shows as active in halshow.

Any help getting M4 reverse working would be greatly appreciated. I'm running Probe Basic if that makes any difference.

.hal and .ini files attached.

Thanks!

Are you saying that spindle.0.speed-out-rps is 0
when you command a reverse spindle speed?

Yes, spindle.0.speed-out-rps is 0 .  When I issue M4Sxxxx commands nothing happens, no errors or anything.  Reverse doesn't work manually from the GUI either.

Attached are screens shots of selected halshow variables when M3 and M4 commands are issued.

Thank you.

What LinuxCNC version are you running?
With a simple Axis configuration + LinuxCNC master, I don't see an issue

M4 S1000:

OK. I'm running 2.10 so it looks like it has to be a ini/hal issue.

Can you start linuxCNC
Then issue a mdi command:

m4 s1000

and post the result of this command:

halcmd show all | grep spindle > spindle.txt

Well pretty mysterious
My config has no halui connections so I wonder if this is a halui issue?
