Better still. Wrap_N_comp
That can wrap any width of counter into 64 bits. (for example 256 bit smart-serial MPG registers, but those are already wrapped to 64 bits by the current driver)

I'll have to think about the wrapping idea.
How would wrapping work if you were syncing with say a Beckhoff EL5042 encoder module that supports a 64 bit encoder natively?

What if it was connected to a battery backed absolute encoder? When the machine was turned on, it might already be > 32 bits.
I don't have enough experience to make a call here.
