I've been wondering if it's possible (or favorable) to directly connect the main spindle encoder output to the sub and when they have to synch up put the sub in follower mode (with suitable output/input ratios programmed).
The drives I have can change command mode using a digital input, and it'd be simple to have LCNC trigger that with an M-code. What might not be so simple is managing the different accel/decel rates each spindle is capable of while they're physically connected by the part. Also not sure how to connect two input sources to a single drive (depends on the drive I guess).
