Universal dividing head with absolute encoder

I recently watched YouTube on dividing head with stepper motors and non of them used encoder to calculate exact position.

4th axis not mentioned here.I just want to make universal dividing head work with ordinary /manual universal milling machine.
It helps to increase efficiency, time saving and reduce errors while indexing.

I am like to make an dividing head running with absolute encoder to rotate divisions or angles with exact location with aid of linux cnc.

Any ideas or previous projects according to this topic?

you can do a Hybrid stepper and connect the system to the encoder input
the PID will correct the encoder system

but a universel divider got most alot of space it is comen to drive only one direction
and on backwards to edit postprocessor to move over 5deg and then go forward to work

I want to add the encoder to the spindle not to the motor

You can make a bracket and put a toothed pulley on the indexer shaft and another on the encoder. But on a motor would seem to be the best option as there is no error with a belt setup

But if there a error how can i compensate it.

My plan is stepper motor mount with bracket to index crank to worm drive at 40:1 and absolute encoder with toothed pulley 1:1 to back side of spindle.
My idea is when i divide to parts encoder can precisely index to required parts and if there can backlash or lose of steps but encoder can retract to the correct location.

It's probably not that much of an error as industrial lathes have belt driven encoders

No I mentioned here that,
Worm gear have play when CW to CCW vice versa.
I want to calculate current position with encoder.

I understand now, it seems like fabricating a bracket to hold the encoder and a cog belt would work.

You need a very high-count encoder for it to be useful if directly connected.
(Heidenhain ERA for example)

1 to 1 timing pulleys will also.give same results is not it?
