So this past week I have been on vacation and I decided to mess around with E bike conversion kits
I first started with my Sister's bike and got a kit from Amazon
1000 watt kit

quickly seen that I couldn't keep up with her and decided to get one for me albeit a little more powerful :P
1500 watt kit

WOW are these things a blast. So far they are holding up well . Without me peddling at all I easily get 10 miles out of a
charge . I can go much further if I use it in peddle assist .

So it make's me wonder has anyone else messed with these kind of E Bike kits and if so how did you like them ?

I have a gutted Kawasaki GPZ600 waiting to be retrofitted with batteries and a motor.
Collecting batteries from old laptops and checking them = to much time, have some 300 of them
I have a 45A brushless DC motor controller but no 3 phase motor for it so i will have to modify an old alternator for it.
I do have 4 of 1.5KW brushed servo motors, thin and long so all 4 can fit on the bike, have plenty of MOSFET's around the shop to coble together a PWM controller, so maybe i go this route, who knows ? :)

Best improvement for any Kawasaki is dumping the gearbox, gawd they are `orrible things.

Mind I haven't ridden one since about 2000, been GSXRs & Monsters for the last 20 years. And the odd Chook chaser & Motard.

One project I'd like to try is a 2000 ish model VTR-250 with a CR-500 squeezed in.

.

As I had always heard it Kawasaki was "built to go fast not to last".
My last motorcycle was an early 80's Suzuki GS450L I haven't ridden in years, Florida traffic is almost suicide now.

I ride a 09 Limited Edition GoldWing but would like to do an electric mountain bike one day... I had a KZ1000 what a blast to ride. And the GT380 Triple was a blast to ride... my first bike was a Honda 50 Super Sport the one with the upswept pipe and I sure wanted a 90 scrambler so bad then.

Hey JT are you one of those Goldie Pilots that can put 20 yro to shame ? I came across a few of those old guys when I was in my early 20's and was blown away how they could throw those things around, and with their missus on back as well. :cheer:

I had a CB125 Bucket Racer, the engine had a XL815 crank squeezed in, it was a bastard to start and going by what happened on it's first "spirited lap" at Oran Park, the base spacer was a couple of thou short of what it should have been. But for what is was it did have a bit of oomph.

The first bike I got after busting my leg was a non-turbo GPz-750 later I had an 810 kit put in....but then a I got a slab sided GSXR-750 and then a slab sided GSXR-1100, which was great and it was a couple of kilos less than the wife's ZZR-600 and a few more horses. After moving to Melbourne for a bit I really learnt how to ride with the rear stepping out.

Did anyone watch the E-Bikes they ran on the MotoGP weekends ? Being an old fart it took a while to get used to the 500 2 strokes (especially the "screamers") being replaced, dunno how I'd go with watching electric bikes.

I don't think the sound of an electric motor and the smell of ozone is the same as a real motorcycle. It is like a led watch it will tell time but that's about it. I remember the first year of the 750 2 strokes at Daytona They were faster than the tires and chains.

I remember reading an article about the riders having to be convinced to try slicks in the early days.
And how can Kenny Roberts & the TZ-750 flat tracker not be mentioned. There was a beast and the bike was pretty crazy as well.
I think eventually we'll see the electric bikes more present on the road, but I don't think there will be any +200 mph rockets that you can be off the showroom floor......I suspect the powers that be will love speed limiting them. You know we can't be trusted.
