The issue isn't that Linux has some technical superiority, it's that we have silo's if interest from oublic and private sector actors colluding to control our screens, it exists in Android, Firefox, Windows etc, all the same thing. Even the open source guys with their "no bi ary blobs" and excluding closed source qpps from repos are doing the same thing.

One thing I've observed about software developers, many of them are controlling narcissists. When you think about computer programming from a 10,000ft view, it certainly would look appealing to people with average intelligence who have strong verbal iq and Machiavellian tendency's to picn computer program as a trade because they would be scratch that itch for tyrannical control.

You can see it with open source projects ejecting contributors and community participants anytime they question or speak against the opinions of the core operations group.

It would be nice if their was a way to find those people and box them up so that couldn't harm everyone but they're everywhere in the software engineering landscape engaging in social engineering scheme's.closed or open source doesn't matter.

Recently OS News blasted owner thom howlerda "check spelling" blasted byran lunduke for being a nazi, bryan is jewish. He was being blasted because he disagrees with the leftist narrative being pushed everywhere

I suggest having a huge banner on every web page on planet earth to remind people that the server they are getting pages from runs Linux, open source software.
The whole world runs on Linux, everything from microwave to NASA "Mission Critical" stuff, to stuff that keeps humans alive in hospitals.
All still Open Source or was Open Source at a given point in time.
-
Talking bad about developers is really uncalled for:
- they are humans, and as such they might get p.o. seeing their software used in huge projects that are making someone somewhere insanely rich, but they are still in their parents basement pushing 40-50 years old with no wife and kids....
-or someone else jumping into their project and trying to change how he/she did things while intentionally trying to make them look dumb/stupid/incapable
And no matter how bad the first example was, this second one is much worse.
It is Open Source, if you do not like how it is, fork it and do things your way, do not demean the original developer/s
-
To ALL DEVELOPERS everywhere:
THANK YOU.

You do realize most Linux development is funded by the US government and intelligence agencies??? Most linux development is funded simply to keep unix alive, which was funded largely by public institutions.

Y'all can't see the truth, even EMC was started by NIST a federal agency.

When did this happen?
Any proof of anything vaguely related? I really doubt it.
Or is this another "i seen it on tiktok so it is true" thing?

Y'all can't see the truth, even EMC was started by NIST a federal agency.

That is true, but it flourished since it was released to public domain.

Darwin is the core Unix-like operating system of macOS (previously OS X and Mac OS X), iOS, watchOS, tvOS, iPadOS, audioOS, visionOS, and bridgeOS. It previously existed as an independent open-source operating system

most ? certainly not
a few of the developers ? certainly yes
but it is much more difficult to put backdoors in opensource than in closed source, and US companies are more or less forced to do so. That doesn't work so easily with FOSS

we should all be glad that there is open software otherwise the big companies could do whatever they want with us

@smc.collins
don't you find it a bit strange to rant about opensource programmers but on the other hand obviously use their software ?
or why are you in a LinuxCNC forum ?

and do i understand you correctly, if you would lower yourself to the level of a developer it would be no problem for you to write all the software yourself ?

do you even know what a narcissist is?
he feels superior to everyone else, never makes mistakes himself and it's always the others' fault.

If developers were like that, there would be no bug fixes, because that would mean that they had made a mistake.

But I can see a few characteristics in your behaviour

Not UNIX, that is SCO territory, it is NIX or GNU or GNU Linux, depending on how you look at it.
Several years back SCO filed a huge lawsuit against everything Linux for copyright B.S. so IBM got even more P.O. and sent some of it's layers and won.
IBM uses it on it's super computers, it was cheaper to pay lawyers than pay fees to SCO, and it was a huge win for Linux and humanity.
Just imagine for a moment if SCO won, how valuable would they be right now? Probably 2000X what NVIDIA is... :)
