Some stuff that really, really pisses me off daily:
--Who the f@ck decided to rename Silicium to silikone?????
-Silicium is a semiconductor
-silicone is a compound for making molds, and gluing glass, and bathroom tiles, and artificial titties
This is terrifying as there is no periodic table on the whole f@kin internet with the original name, even the f@kin auto correct keep underlining the word Silicium as incorrect! Bloody hell!!!!!!!!
-
-Why do Americans call "gas" a liquid ?????
-Why do Americans call "football" a game with no use of feet ?????
-Why do the internet dumb f@cks call a multi tabbed battery "tables" ?????
-
AMD is really dropping the ball lately, on everything.
To AMD:
Dear Lisa Su, stop f@kin yapping on TV, and stop doing whatever Intel does !!!
They lost, you won, move on
DO NOT sell "performance core and economy core processors", change the naming to something normal as i can not keep up with the bloody naming and versions and variants, it has gotten to damn tedious.
I advise people daily on what hardware to buy, you are making it impossible !
-
Will add more as i bump into whatever

Never seen that weird spelling

www.britannica.com/science/silicon

After an attempt to isolate silicon in 1808, Sir Humphry Davy proposed the name "silicium" for silicon, from the Latin silex, silicis for flint, and adding the "-ium" ending because he believed it to be a metal.

Which is kind of interesting.

Football is a regional thing, soccer is used in Australia or soc-her, football can mean AFL, Rugby League or Rugby Union, usually Rugby Union is called Rugby. AFL is most states of Australia, except Victoria, is know as Aerial Ping Pong.

To "Kiss someone's ring" in my country means to "kiss someone's arse".
Bending the knee is not a demonstration of of rebellion or whatever the woke mean it to be. It has always been associated with being knighted and showing respect to the King or Queen.

Cnut has many uses in Australia.
Old Cnut can be an insult or term of endearment.
F*****g Cnut is an insult.

BTW TISM are fantastic.

More TISM, not for the weak of heart or mind. Sorry I know it's off topic, but they very good at pointing out stupidity in the human race.

For more de-dummification:
Silicon is a natural chemical element (Si Atomic Number 14, a hard, brittle crystalline solid), silicone is a man-made product. The words are often used interchangeably but there are important differences. Whilst silicon is natural, silicone is a man-made polymer derived from silicon.

Silicium is Si, 14, not silicon.
30 years ago making this mistake would cost your job, now you can not find the correct name anywhere.

As I stated in my first post (which you must have glossed over or ignored or do I just post shit that only I read), it was named Silicium because it was incorrectly thought to be a metal. It is now Silicon, as it was in the 1980's when I was at high school.

newsroom.lamresearch.com/10-Fun-Facts-About-Silicon?blog=true

Were you at school in the very early 1800's Tommy ?

Another thing people, not reading the full content of a post, even when in red letters people are not told to do something, yet they do and then say "it doesn't work".

I did read, and therein lies the problem, till 1990-2000 it was strictly called Silicium, it was on all periodic tables as such, and i was in school in the 80's and it was Silicium for sure. Somewhere there the transition started, maybe even earlier when integrated chips started to take over based on "silicon valley" name as there were Silicium and Germanium semiconductors, then came silicon chips !!!

And that is the only stuff i can find, internet archive does not have much before 2005.

Ok once again its a regional thing.

Silicon was given the name Silicon in 1817 Thomas Thomson.

In 1787, Antoine Lavoisier suspected that silica might be an oxide of a fundamental chemical element,[18] but the chemical affinity of silicon for oxygen is high enough that he had no means to reduce the oxide and isolate the element.[19] After an attempt to isolate silicon in 1808, Sir Humphry Davy proposed the name "silicium" for silicon, from the Latin silex, silicis for flint, and adding the "-ium" ending because he believed it to be a metal.[20] Most other languages use transliterated forms of Davy's name, sometimes adapted to local phonology (e.g. German Silizium, Turkish silisyum, Catalan silici, Armenian Սիլիցիում or Silitzioum). A few others use instead a calque of the Latin root (e.g. Russian кремний, from кремень "flint"; Greek πυρίτιο from πυρ "fire"; Finnish pii from piikivi "flint", Czech křemík from křemen "quartz", "flint").

The Lunch box thing makes sense the creator is from Germany. As shown in the above post.

I have no idea how us Aussies should spell it after that!
Edit: Seems it was Silicon in the 70s when I last encountered the periodic table

I suspect Tommy lives in a pocket of the world who ignored the change in the 1800's
