Yikes.
Nice feller.
I get annoyed sometimes here with the "presumed prior knowledge" crowd, but that is not how you deal with that.

I just figured tommylight was having a bad day.
tommylight, I remember those posts I couldn't believe he wasn't banned at that point because of how
he was acting. I think we are tougher on spammers then people were on that guy.

We are humans, and as such we all have our ups and downs.
Hence, it's also human to restrain when someone else has a bad day as not to amplify whatever hardship they are going through.
As for spammers, they do damage, actual damage, as clicking on some of those links will literally grant them full access to your PC and everything on your network, yes even cameras, followed by misusing whatever info they got out of your systems and then some will add extortion to that threatening with making that info public. Or completely locking you out of everything, and extorting you to get your own stuff back.
So calling us names here and a bit of cursing and swearing just makes this place more "colorful"

No tommy not study at 1800 ... only study element table as explain here in old continent with scientific Latin world .... All nation use a derived name, based on Modern Latin (silicium = modern latin .... silex = old latin) .... at end your explanation is right, But if you buy a table of element in Italy Silicium is the world ... or Silicio in italian ... Silicium is for most part of european people if they buy an original element table (not in local language).
Any how Tommy when study zilog80 and NE555 texas instruments (25 year ago) all manuals talk about Silicon. American manual obviusly ... Have you never noticed that the division between Christianity and Protestants here in Europe has also divided scientific studies? This is what happened.... we separated 300 years ago and even today we struggle to find the thread of union.
The dumification is an old history ... and history tends to be really boring!!! .... need to change it every one a little pieces .... THAT'S THE WAY ! (that I prefer to "may the force be with you").

What I don't get is that the change from Silicium (wrongly named as it was thought to be a metal) to Silicon predate Mendeleev's periodic table (actually this happened in 1823 and Mendeleev was born in 1834).
ISO publications refer to as Silicon.
I think it was either 2023 or 2024 that the Z80 finally went out of production.
Regarding the 555, most of the younger generation would probably grab an Arduino to flash an LED and think they are an electronics expert.
I truly think that the Arduino and it's ilk have "dumbed down" electronics as a hobby....oh hang on, we must call them "makers" now eh.
On no history is great, even recent history, tho Vale can't seem to get over it and still has to dig at Marc.

Nah, i did my thing, no one started screaming at me, got more replies from Ausies than Americans despite aiming for Americans (i was convinced the silicium thing is just another "labeling everything wrong" American doing, obviously it was not), and all in all, a very civilized conversation.
Now moving on to "tabless" Elon-Tesla wrongly labeled batteries...
Should i start a new topic for that?
Or should i pick on Intel and AMD and Nvidia as it is still a hot topic?
Or Facebook/meta, twitter/x, adobe.....
ah the choices ...

Actually Tommy is was an interesting thing you raised, I had no idea of the different spellings & such. I think being in Australia and being so far away from the rest of the world we know that things are different outside the context of out borders.
Another thing is being a colony of the British Empire, and getting our independence without a war (they were probably happy to be rid of us), we still kept cultural links to Great Britain and later on had "the USA influence". And we have no issues with metric imperial system. But cmon the metric system makes more sense, doesn't have different values based on arbitrary values, geesh base 17 would have made more sense.
Tho it does piss me off that people at home call Solicitors lawyers, our political and justice system is based on the Westminster model, that when we have elections people think that like the US we vote for a leader, when in fact we vote for the candidate in our Electorate and whatever party gets the most votes win. Technically the leader of the winning party could lose his seat and said party would have to vote a new leader.
I don't use X but from limited experience of Facebook I think that is the epicenter of dumification (is that really a word lol). It replaced the viral emails of the late 90's and early 2000's, excpet it has a broader audience and the dumbness spreads quicker.
I having a conversation with a girl once and she thought she might be gluten intolerant, turned out she was eating 8 -10 slices of bread a day and feeling bloated.
There's more but I think I'll just go out and yell at the sky. I'm pretty sure that's what my son thinks I do all day......but he's a Metalhead so it's okay.
