Hi
I finally have a Debian installation of the uspace Linuxcnc 2.7 working. Bar the 7i80 setup.
I can ping the 7i80 from a terminal at it's default ip but the system does not see the network interface card.
Any suggestions please?

I used this guide linuxcnc.org/docs/2.7/html/man/man9/hm2_eth.9.html

Regards
Marius

Do you have 2 NICs in your system? make sure they do not have overlapping IP address ranges

The default hardwired 7I80 IP address is commonly used for local networking so is a good
choice for setting up but likely a bad choice for normal operation.

What I have done is use IP address 10.10.10.10 for the Ethernet FPGA card and 10.10.10.1
for the host NIC connected to the 7I80, then the internet connected NIC can use the
192.168.1.xxx IP address range freely.

To set the 7I80 IP address to 10.10.10.10 you run mesaflash with the command

mesaflash --device 7i80 --set ip=10.10.10.10

Then move the IP address jumpers on the 7I80 to the "FIXED FROM EEPROM" setting
and cycle the 7I80 power

Hi Peter
I only have one NIC on the system and it is connected directly to the 7i80. The IP's do not conflict as I can ping the 7i80 and the NIC.

I have seen this error but not recently,
If I can recall, it seems to only happen when
I have changed something in the network setup

I dont normally test with a single NIC as its too awkward for normal use

what (host) hardware do you have?

That looks correct (it should match the sticker on the back of the 7I80 card)

And it does match. That means the 7i80 is seen? So what could go wrong then? Does the error say it does not detect a Mesa board or does it say it does not see an interface?

Yes the 7I80 is seen but theres some network setup error or something else that causes the
"Resource temporarily unavailable" message.

Like I say I have seen the error but only once many months ago and IICRC it was related to using the same interface
for RT and non RT traffic

What is the ping time of the 7I80? (first ping may be longer because or ARP)

The first ping was 0.643 ms and the rest is around 0.300ms.

How do I force non RT trafic away from a specific NIC? The box is a slimline so fitting another card is a problem but I could fit a USB NIC for other trafic.
