I am new to Linux world.
Is it possible to install Linux CNC on Xunbutu?
If yes how have I to proceed because I'm not a "sudo" warrior.
Regards

I have it running on Lubuntu, and that was fairly easy.
wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?Instal...ed_LinuxCNC_packages
Follow the instructions there (or change the URL to say "precise" if you are on 14.04)

Hmm, I see.
Well, all it is really doing is setting up the software sources, which you can do by hand.
However, I just noticed that I don't know what version of Xubuntu you are using. Is your version of Xubuntu based on Precise Pangolin, Lucid Lynx or Trusty Tahr?

the lucid script aborts on Xunbutu.

That is likely to be fun.
You are probably going to have to compile LinuxCNC from source. (not actually very difficult) but the real problem is likely to be the realtime kernel.
Which kernel version does 14.04 need?

Well, there _is_ someone running LinuxCNC on an RTAI version of that kernel:

How much of a voyage of discovery do you fancy?

If you are building on a unsupported distribution,, Preemt-RT realtime kernels are
typically easier to build than RTAI based kernels, however Preemt-RT typically has worse
latency figures than RTAI.
If you are doing software stepping, RTAI is best. If you have a servo system or a hardware
step generator. Preemt-RT is fine. Preemt-RT is probably ok for software
stepping if you have recent (and fast) hardware:
