What Rtai Kernel needed? was created by Holzwurm56
Hi,
I was not able to install LinuxCNC 2.6 Debian on my pc, so I have install Ubuntu 12.04 and then LinuxCNC 2.6. Then I install the rtai pae kernel. When boot in rtai mode the pc will not work. Maybe the pc is not able to work in pae mode. Is there an rtai kernel available without pae?
Thanks
Hans

Try the LinuxCNC 2.5 LiveCD with Ubuntu 10.04. You can upgrade to 2.7 after that. If you have older hardware you need older operating system.

What makes you think the kernel is bad?
You can upgrade from 2.5 to 2.7 without changing any kernels if you follow the upgrade instructions on the wiki.

Did I solve the first issue yet?
Debian was chosen for some good reason and I'm glad Ubuntu 12.04 really looked like a tablet interface to me.

Hi BigJohnT,
I am now desparing. O. K. my computer was old and I take a newer computer. I installed LinuxCNC 2.6 and when I start the computer first time I get the message "wrong password", I install sometimes new the same. I download 2.7 with the LiveCD, make the install, start "wrong password". So I am test two days to install LinuxCNC with Debian and was not sucsessfull.
With the Linuxcnc 2.5 Ubuntu-livecd im 10 minutes was the installing perfekt.
Thanks
Hans

When you start Debian Wheezy it does not ask for your password first. It asks for your user name first then your password. Another annoying feature of backwards progress...
