RTL8111 Wired network connection setup?

Also, I'm having some trouble setting up a wired Ethernet connection with the realtek RTL8111 network port. Anyone have any tips on how to setup properly? Can we get this driver put into the Linux CNC iso?

I have the latest stable version. I grabbed it last week.

I just tried the LinuxCNC Wheezy ISO distribution (with RTAI kernel) on a Motherboard
with a RTL8111 ( A intel D510) , and it seems ok

I did not test extensively but ping works, large file copies are OK, and a ssh session was fine
(no trouble in about 10 minutes of normal network stuff)

What specific problem do you have with the RTL8111 on Wheezy?

I have no problems during install and it seems to to actually connect to the internet during the installation when it goes through the Ethernet configuration, but when it boot up, it seems to use the R8169 driver. I get no connection to the internet, no IP. I tried to install the latest RTL8111 driver from realtek's site and followed their readme file and I get no errors during install. Again, I get no connection. I've tried multiple ports on the router and multiple cables to rule that out. Also, oddly, my router shows this computer as a connected device.

I am currently trying Ubuntu Precise, but that doesn't seem to install...

I would be checking the physical network connection. "Link Down" reported on my Netgear smart switch means there is no connection. I recently had problems with a Zebra label printer that refused to connect to the network. The problem was that it could not auto negotiate a connection on a Gigabit switch. The solution was to configure a port on the switch at a lower speed or use a 10/100 switch. Eventually the link came up on a 10 mb full duplex setting and the printer was happy. Lucky ZPL label formats are usually just a few lines.

Oh and don't do what I did and plug the printer into the patch panel and not the actual switch!

I've tried multiple ports and cables. I don't think my current router will allow manipulation of the port speed(unless I load DD-WRT firmware). The port on the mobo lights lights up when I plug in and even in the router control panel it shows "Debian" as a connected device.

Did you try manually setting up the link?
Does it work with any OS? maybe you just have bad hardware

Possibly, but it seems to connect when it installs because when I boot, it knows there updates to be installed.

I don't know how to manually set up the link. I need some assistance with the correct commands to do so.

I just tried a the latest version of debian and internet works out of the box. Is there a way to the ethernet work on the LinuxCNC distro?
