There is a detailed how to there. But you do need to have a GUI installed.

Is better for these 1 -> install ubuntu patch rt (I test kernel 4.8.5 rt10) -> install
Lcnc from source
-> instal LAMP server .... kubuntu I think is better because xfce I have a little better performance in latency than a normal unity or gnome wm.
Or you can start from minimal (I think better choice for performance) with xfce than install all you need ....
