2.7.9 the version that handles Ethernet board 7i76E

Restarted and now it more or less locks up the PC

I really doubt the update caused the issue... (I have been running 2.7.10 for a bit)

Could you run a memtest on it and check your hard drive smart data?

What distro? is it the wheezy livecd? did you just apt-get update/upgrade to get it?

Live CD + update/upgrade

Leaning towards reinstalling 2.7.9 and see what is going on.
OK, this is not the fastest PC but it did act reasonably on 2.7.9

I get some error message about DMI when starting up

Ah - I see. that is a pretty old iso - the latest is r7 - and is really for testing currently.

What is your computer hardware - debian stretch is the latest released operating system - could it be your hardware cannot handle it? You would have to go back to current wheezy linuxcnc livecd. - if that is what you started with.

A note - you shouldn't install a new iso to upgrade linuxcnc. You should have just updated the linuxcnc version on your existing install.

it isn't 2.7.9 vs 2.7.10 - it is whatever os you started with vs Debian stretch.

IE - it is like running mach3 on windows XP - then installing windows 7 and complaining that mach3 is slow.

oh - huh.

Then again - I would be looking at your hardware. I bet there is a memory issue or something...
