Very good latencys in Debian stretch was created by emcPT
To report that I am having very good latencies results in Debian stretch (Debian 9) using the r9 test .iso available in:
www.linuxcnc.org/testing-stretch-rtpreempt/
I have changed the default xfde to gnome (very beautiful), all hardware was detected and I am able to use a virtual machine with Windows running as guest while using LinuxCNC. Very happy with the results until now - see attachment for test results.
For all those interested it is running with the hardware:
H97M E35 motherboard
Intel G3460
8Gb RAM (very useful for the Virtual machine)
I am just unable to compile LinuxCNC to a modificated source that I have. I am in fact having the same problem reported in post forum.linuxcnc.org/9-installing-linuxcnc...etch?start=40#100740
Any help about this would be great.

I have an installation using that liveCD and it compiles LinuxCNC without problems.
I installed all the packages that checkbuilddeps showed me.
You could try, as an experiment "sudo apt-get install linuxcnc-dev" though I am not sure if that exists any more.
