I am having trouble getting Linuxcnc to run on my hardware,

I am using the following,

Mint LMDE 3 Cindy

Plasmac Branch

Mesa 7i76e connect directly to computer,

I can ping the mesa card but when I try to open the Linuxcnc shortcut created by Pnccof I get the following error report,

why dident you go with the standard mint 19.1 and mate as it is recommended
linuxcnc
you need to get the latest from here
buildbot.linuxcnc.org/

use the master stretch

In your errors, this is likely what caused it
./SWS_Plasma.hal:128: parameter or pin 'pid.y1.Pgain' not found

Can you run a SIM without error?

You need to share your hal and ini files but it seems line 128 of your hal file is where to start looking.

Rod,

Yes I can run the Plasmac sims fine,

Please see attached for the hal and ini.

IN your HAL, Try changing
loadrt pid names=pid.x,pid.y,pid.z,pid.s

to
loadrt pid names=pid.x,pid.y,pid.y1,pid.z,pid.s

For some reason you are missing a pid setting.for y1

EDIT: All I did was look at line 128 and then have a think about what was going on.

Yes this looks like a simple HAL error.

Yes this looks like a simple HAL error.

But the real question is it a user error or is Pncconf doing the wrong thing?

I still think pncconf and possibly stepconf are doing this the wrong way for independent joints. There should be no mention of axes in the config. It all should be joints and the only thing about axes should be in the ini file.
coordinates=XYYZ
I'm sure this will be a source of confusion as 2.8 goes mainstream
eg the hal should be more like
loadrt pid names=pid.0,pid.1,pid.2,pid.3 pid.s

You could achieve this by allowing a string to enter the Coordinates value eg XYYZ in this instance. I don't think the devs really want to tackle it as its a lot of work.....

pncconf knows about two motors on one axis? I dont think it does it right.

I would do a pncconf with three axis machine then modify configs for the gantry.

My setup is a xyyzz configuration. I have been setting up my motors in pncconf in the IO Connector 1 tab like so Axis > Main Axis > x y or z axis stepgen and then set up the second motor for a 2 motor axis like Axis > Tandem Axis > y or z stepgen. I must have used pncconf this way over a dozen times these last few weeks in my testing and I've never had an issue here.

Playing with pncconf just now I see that when you setup two motors as main axis > y for example it will not generate a pid.y2 or any of the other y2 hal settings. But if you use the tandem axis option it will creates those hal configs. (and they work)

So thefabricator03, did you select a main y with a tandem y or two main y's?

[edit]

eg the hal should be more like
loadrt pid names=pid.0,pid.1,pid.2,pid.3 pid.s

FWIW that would make more sense to me too

Thanks for the help guys,

What Rod suggested was correct except I had a few more errors as well to do with setting up the duel Y axis. I modified the HAL and now it starts.
