I did presume that but since I was running RTAI on Wheezy with 2.7.14 I figured I would stick with that when doing all of the upgrades. The 7i76E requires Preempt-RT correct?
Thanks tommylight

FYI, Mesa 5i25 and 6i25 work perfectly with Preempt-RT kernel.

No I don't believe there is no need to improve the world. I just don't advocate changing everything for the sake of change. I for one am glad not be be living in a cave being afraid of the weather and fighting off sabre tooth cats & mega bears. But on the other hand I don't see the point in having everything connected via Bluetooth and using Fusion 360 when i want to build something simple like a cabinet, set of shelves or a work bench, all that can be done mentally in one's head.
Before one decides to make a change one must evaluate whether the change is completely necessary, sometimes a change isn't required. The ability to decide what needs changing and what doesn't comes with maturity.
There is a difference between a desktop computer being used for simple everyday tasks and one that controls several hundred kilos to several tonnes of metal that spins sharp cutty bits and spins up to several thousand rpm.
Take the humble circular saw, the major design is pretty much the same, a lot of the changes have been to new materials and manufacturing techniques and safety requirements (user or electrical). Of course there are some novel additions, some additions restrict the overall usefulness, ie: custom tracking devices. Others are of no real use, one that is of little use is the laser guide, one that I would argue is a change that isn't required and adds little to the overall usefulness. Some may argue "but it's technology", but they would be the ones that don't use one on a regular basis. One that I would argue is a fantastic change\update is the cordless circular saw, in saying that, it is only the power train that has the update, the rest is still pretty much the basic design.
I'm just a simple Aussie that rides a motorbike and works as a labourer. Australia is a pretty simple country. Here's a few examples:
A snake that is deadly and black is called a Black Snake
A snake that is deadly and black with a red belly is called a Red Belly Black Snake.
A snake that is deadly and is brown is called a Brown Snake.
An octopus that is deadly and has blue rings is called A Blue Ringed Octopus.
The Portuguese man o' war, we call 'em Blue Bottles.
Old Mate with red hair, well we call him Bluey.

But I will defend one position anyway - if there are no extraordinary circumstances, the operating system needs to be updated to the current state.
A few years ago, one of my colleagues and a good friend left for Australia to work as a system administrator at a local Internet service provider.
There, on the beach, they tried to drown him, he stayed under water for almost ten minutes and spent several months in a coma.
Then I also thought that manners there are some very simple...
Respectfully,
Ogogon.

I believe that for some reason you have attributed to me too much maximalism. No I don't believe there is no need to improve the world. Cool! Do you have a home kangaroo?I'm just a simple Aussie that rides a motorbike and works as a labourer.
I already know it.Australia is a pretty simple country. Here's a few examples:

In the field of the brain and psyche, there are still a lot of puzzles.
I believe that in your Sydney hospital he is still remembered.

@JohnyCNC
Yes, the Pteempt-RT version is required for 7i76E.
Thank you guys for some nice reading.
As for hardware, a Samsung Galaxy Note3 is 7 years old and it will still beat the cr@p of 95% of new phones and run latest software without a hitch. I use a 4'th gen quad core i5 as the main PC for compiling and testing and cteating ISO's, running Mint 19.2, it works perfectly and will do so for the forseeable future. But, when using windows everything changes as it has provisions for slowing down every thing when it finds an older ptoccesor or graphic card, check the internet, there are plenty of tests confirming that.
Regards,
Tom.

Just want to clarify this: you have links to two images, one for newer computers, the other for older ones.
Naturally, I want to understand what category my control computer belongs to.
It has the following configuration:
MB - ECS H61H2-M6 v2.0 LGA1155 IntelH61 DDR3
CPU - i3-2100 @ 3.10 GHz
RAM - 4 Gb
It uses the built-in LPT port for control.
Another question on distributives.
Now they have installed kernels with real-time support. Does the update manager know about this?
Could it be that when the next version of the kernel appears, it will cheerfully load and install the simple kernel, without real time?
And the last question - where can I read the current instructions for manual assembly of such a distributive? Here were mentioned such, but alas, without links...
Grateful in advance,
Ogogon.

In your case, RTAI version,
To update
Sudo apt update
Sudo apt dist-upgrade
Othervise it will replace the kernel.
