7i80 has been flashed, Still no axis movement.

I'm sure that this has been asked before, but I can't seem to find the information that helps despite hours of looking.
I hope I'm asking in the correct place. if not please let me know.
I replaced my computer that was using Mesa 5i20 with 5i33 configured for analog servo for my Bridgeport Mill. The new (to me) Dell SFF Optiplex has no PCI, so I decided to try an ethernet card.
I was able to follow the excellent instructions from this forum titled Linuxcnc on Linux Mint 19.3 quick and easy installation.
Thank you for that. Even I was able to install it.
I have the rtpreempt kernel installed and I'm getting decent latency.
When I tried to get the servo motors moving again I am having issues. Most likely due to flashing issues with 7i80hd 16.
I have 5v powered to the 7i80hd 16 on the p4 connector per the manual. The ethernet cable is plugged in. showing link lights on.
I don't have a grasp on flashing the card. Peter at Mesa suggest this link; github.com/LinuxCNC/mesaflash, to build from source since this distribution doesn't have mesaflash in it. I didn't have major problems doing it, I got saw no errors, but unsure is it IS installed.
My next try was to put in another HD and try a fresh installation of linuxcnc 2.8.0 buster ISO.
That does seem to have mesaflash installed but when I try: sudo mesaflash --device 7i80hd_16 , getting this: no 7i80 found.
I've tried different combinations in ethernet manager. I edited the setings for manual configuration in the IPv4 tab with different combinations.
I believe that I got some results with this one.
Address 192.168.1.124
Netmask 24
Gateway 192.168.1.1
DNS 192.168.1.1
How can I know if it's seeing the card? If I ping 7i80hd_16, what should the result look like if it's seen?
Can someone point me in the right direction?
I really would like to get it working in Mint but I'll use Debian buster install if it would be easier.

There is a Mint 19.3 iso with Linuxcnc preinstalled that has mesaflash installed.

What IP address does the manual state that your card uses by default ?
With the NIC you configure for the Mesa card you do not need a gateway nor DNS.

With jumpers W1 and W2 down, which they are, the default is 192.168.1.121.
I tried that using the gateway and DNS.
I don't understand what to enter in the Gateway box or the DNS box. Just leave them blank?
Also can you give me the link for the Mint 19.3 that has mesaflash installed.

It’s the third pinned topic under the “Installing Linuxcnc” section.
DNS and Gateway can be left blank.
Make sure your cable is good and don’t connect thru a switch. I always use a “straight thru” cable as opposed to a “cross over” cable.

The cable is straight thru, hooked direct, I tried 2. I never thought of that possibility though.
I will try leaving that blank.
Thank you for the link. Will I need to do a complete reinstall or is there a easy way to update to get an mint 19.3 with mesaflash?
