I keep getting package failures after updating the repos and adding them, 2.8.4. Most of a day gone trying to upgrade to 2.9 so I can configure my 7i97

As far as I can tell the 7i97 is supported in 2.8.4

I can 100% confirm that this is not correct. I wish that were the so. I also need to be able to configure the 7i76 that's connected to it so that I can grab some of the IO

It might not be supported in pncconf, but it should still work.
You could try using MesaCT if you are unwilling to hand-modify a config.

unfortunately mesact won't allow for the io on the 7i76 connected via the expansion port. i have also been scratching my head as to why i can't assign the spindle output to analog 4 or 5.
maybe JT can chime in. i need my spindle to also be the c axis as well, not sure how to do that yet
