Uspace = user space = for RT-Preempt kernel
There is also the RTAI kernel version, that was talked about in the link you posted.

As far as i can see there is no dev for RTAI version:
linuxcnc.org/docs/2.8/html/getting-start...#cha:Installing-RTAI
Found it for Wheezy:
buildbot.linuxcnc.org/dists/wheezy/master-rt/binary-i386/
but that should work also from terminal, did you do a
sudo apt-get update
before install?

I have a large mesa configuration with 3 serial cards which only works under RTAI.
with a lot of components to compile and install.
rtai under buster is very risky for my big milling machine, so I am forced to stay
under wheezy.
Following the post here:
forum.linuxcnc.org/9-installing-linuxcnc...ing-on-2-8-rt#201956
Andy installed the package linuxcnc-dev on Wheezy rtai 2.8.1 in 15 minutes (it was an oversight)
that is no longer possible on 2.8.2 ?

I think that this is the package that you need:
www.linuxcnc.org/dists/wheezy/2.8-rt/bin...c-dev_2.8.2_i386.deb
I don't know why the package manager is not finding it.

Thanks andy,
In the mean time, I installed debian buster alone
with the intention of installing RTAI
and linuxcnc 2.8.2 following the instructions given here:
linuxcnc.org/docs/2.8/html/getting-start...#cha:Installing-RTAI
but the packages were not found either ...
About Mesa and my 3 serial cards, they don't want to start with a 1000000 ns servo-thread
they start with 500000 ns ? which is incompatible with rt-preempt .

RT-Preempt does not care much about servo period as long as the PC can handle it, and the cards connected to that PC.
Not sure how to say this, but if it works with 500000 it should work with 1000000, there is no justifiable reason for it not to work except a typo in the ini file.
