Did i miss something or are the image and headers there? i couldnt find any?

I might be missing something, but I just downloaded rtai-3.8.tar.bz2 and the patch files seemed to be there (base/arch/i386/patches) and lots of other stuff too.

I have no idea how you work out which version you need for any given linux kernel though.

Hi alexr

I know, a silly hint, but I have had crazy effects with a specific keyboard that works well on all other pc's .....
A thin client was not able to boot linux...... and went mad...

I have been there. RTAI package is provided in a tarball but no image and header to be found or that i can find following install procedure.

All i have done is in one of my other threads a few requests down.

last time i just downloaded them off synaptic but they arent there any more, im talking to the rtai crew to see whats happening

in the mean time i am trying other solutions.

thank you for your input though appreciated

ANSWER FOUND!!!!

Solution #1

help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCD

Figure 4: Just press enter to get past this, or let it time-out

this actually works!

Solution #2

What I had done was press ESC to view runtime info when livecd was loading

and I found this

"GLIB ERROR getpwid_r (): unable to run due to unknown user ID" (bios set tocd only boot no hdds attached to Mainboard)

I pressed enter and it came up with "(0)"

the old login splash had about five options on a purple splash screen ( original boot screen, and it looks very professional)

After waiting for Livecd to load (and doing the above); a new option screen came up with "try ubuntu without installing" and another option "install ubuntu" in a WINDOW like view.

boots up like this every time now! even with original bios settings, hdds plugged in and grub with ubuntu / windows multiboot unmodified.

HERE is everything i did before finding solutions:

changed bios settings to cd boot with hdds in and nothing disabled

tried livecd disk without installing and got login prompt (stuck)

reset

changed bios settings to cd boot with hdds disabled

reset

tried livecd disk without installing and got login prompt (stuck)

reset.

changed bios settings to cd boot with hdds disabled and turned off to unplug hdds

turned back on

tried livecd disk without installing and got login prompt (stuck)

reset

changed everything back to original state, plugged every thing back in and did some more research after posting here for the first time

2days later...............

found the above solution #1
found solution #2 by complete accident

and that folks is how i got my livecd to work, now thats what i call a happy ending

To simply all above: if you get a login dialog when booting the live cd: use username ubuntu with empty password.
