I think you should be using the current version of the source to start with
github.com/linuxcnc-ethercat/linuxcnc-ethercat

@tommy (or another mod) could you sticky this thread please? It's a gold mine of info!
Done.

I am not sure this needs to be stickied anymore as ther has been so much work by Scott Laird on the ethercat hal driver which also includes a buildbot that pushes the deb file across to the etherlabmaster guys who have agreeed to host it for us.
Today, you just need to:
sudo apt update
sudo apt install  linuxcnc-ethercat

Then follow the sticky in this forum section
forum.linuxcnc.org/ethercat/45336-etherc...-how-to-step-by-step

Some people have got tangled up by following this method and then trying to install from repositories.

My feeling is it should be unstickied but what do others think?

Rod, I was proud of that sticky... but you were the one that got it up there to start with.

Sorry, I noticed several people were trying to mix this and the repositories together and needlessly getting into trouble because of that.
Plus the ethercat driver source should be coming from this repository because its maintainrd and has had a lot of changes
github.com/linuxcnc-ethercat
It has a buildbot that publishes itself on the ethercat repos.

@Halil
Start a new topic for configuration issues, this is for installation only.
Thank you.
