Any experience with cnc-step machines?

Category: Milling Machines

As the topic is quite changed from the original question it felt better to start a new topic with the new approach:

How to build a CNC Router?

Category: Milling Machines

As my somewhat naive start into the topic in this thread:
forum.linuxcnc.org/12-milling/55699-any-...th-cnc-step-machines?
has mostly changed into another direction, I open a new one.
The goal is to end up with a machine able to work mostly flat wooden material mostly up to 27mm thickness with a working area of about 1500x1000mm. (Most likely by buying a made ready chassis and fit it with the desired motors, drvers, controller, spindel/router)
As it is -as several members mentioned in the other thread- kinda unwise to dump a few 1000 bugs directly. I decided to take a less costly path first. As I would love to have some use other than learning I'm thinking of this approach:
-getting a small, used desktop sized 3-axis mill chassis (around 200x200mm) with steppers and start from there
-purpose would be something like prototype PCB milling, some small wood pendant engraving
After I have that running turn to the larger machine, with the lessons learned from the mall one.

I was thinking along Tommys Lines.

Me, too. Will start a new thread for that path.

Mesa 7i96s from EU Surplus
Meanwell MDR-20-5 power supply (5 volt logic power)
Meanwell MDR-60-24 power supply (24 volt field power)
Meanwell LRS-350-48 power supply (48 volt 7.3 amp motor power
3 x 50 volt stepper controllers
Estop button

I do understand the 5v logic and the motor power, but what does the "field power" do/ is for

So basically just a square wave on each physical pad ?

I was thinking it might have been some serial debug info.

Cheers

correspondence of unused i/o pins to physical connector location?

Category: PnCConf Wizard

Slightly outside the original topic: pncconf lets me reconfigure what is by default an input (e.g., the Quad B i/o #28) into an output (e.g., "Machine is enabled"). Does the board really allow that? And if so, are the +/- pins for that input now complementary outputs?

7i95 board for 5ABoB(not T or S) firmware missing

Category: Driver Boards

Hi

Thanks for your response. It has regular pins for the 7i95 hardware with the parallel ports having I/O pins. Please help with the bitfiles with stepgens ans inputs as they are not available on the mesa website.

Hi all

i could not find 7i95 board with 5ABoB (not the T or S) board firmware on the mesa website. Please share if possible with stepgens for the 5ABoB with inputs.

What is the sign of the PWM value when it runs away?

I think there is a runaway possibility with that hal setup when you reduce
the spindle speed enough that you get a negative PID output (which is treated
as a positive by the PWM hardware so instead of the spindle slowing down, it speeds up)

This _may_ be fixable by setting the PWM mode to 2 (UP/DOWN) so you get 0 output
when given a negative command. Another way would be to limit the PID output to
positive values.

So both show drivers and modules loaded, leading to conclude not a Linux issue.
Back to chasing bus master and other flags, although we already have instances where bus master shows and does not show with the corresponding driver/module showing and not showing.
