Converting a 7i76e config to 7c81/7i76 pair

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Maybe I am having a senior moment, but how do you test the step/dir with a 7c81 when you can’t get LinuxCNC to run?

Again, please clarify which drive you ended up taking. Because a closed-loop drive is sold by the seller at a slightly higher price. This is probably due to the low-level firmware. They might have sent you a cheaper version.

As per the first post this is an ET60 so it has encoder inputs and associated firmware. The ECR60 is open loop only.
I wonder if you would be so kind as to share your working config?

Thanks, the axes move perfectly!

I've just set the PID parameters for my axes.
i'd like to know if bounces are ok or should i have as few as possible?
because the procedure is very well written, except that it doesn't specify what scale to stop at.
At 50 mv/div, are bounces negligible?

the images are relative to my X axis (with the turret), which is why there are more bounces when drawing. Im actualy at P=125 and F1=1

Since 'ci402.0.pos-scale' is a hal_parameter and not a hal_pin you cannot connect it to other hal_pins. You can only set them in using 'setp'.

As for 'ddt.0.out' that is an OUT hal_pin so it can only be connected to an IN hal_pin, so in your panel you can only connect it to something like a HAL_label to display the value.

What's the Oddest Machine You Have Powered with LinuxCNC

Category: Off Topic and Test Posts

Coincidentally that machine was also the very first machine I ever setup/retrofitted to run Linuxcnc (EMC2 at the time) and it has been running it the longest. But back then it started out as a simple 3 axis control with 3 step/dir commanded servos using software stepgens and no control of the VFDs. (The operator had to manually start/stop the spindles/VFDs.)

Then few years later I added a Mesa 5i25/7i85S combo, to add encoder feedback to close the position loop in Linuxcnc and fast hardware step-generation. Soon after that I used Mb2hal, to add control of the 8 spindle VFDs to Linuxcnc.

I have nearly a 20yr history with this machine since we bought it new, with more than half of those years running EMC2/Linuxcnc.

Once I get this done, my project will be completely finished. This is the last issue I'm stuck on.

One way to debug this is to widen the following error limits
and then plot the commanded and feedback joint positions
with halscope.

I'm trying to do what the manual says, but I'm getting errors. I can't connect ddt to the testpanel, nor can I connect it to ci402.0.pos-scale. It seems difficult to do this for someone at my level.
