can i conect this  3 cards (7i85s ,7i83 and 7i84 ) to the 7i76e and wil linux cnc 2.8.4   all in and outputs recognice  automaticly
do i have to order some special cable  to let it work  ?
this 3 cards are in stock at eusurplus  for 337€

7i76E to 7i85S you need a short IDC26 pin to DB25 pic cable, eusurplus has those and are cheap ( or 7i85 with no S, in your case may be better as you can add more SSerial boards)
7i76E to 7i83 through a network cable, CAT5 or CAT6 or CAT5E
7i85S (or 7i85) to 7i84 through a network cable, CAT5 or CAT6 or CAT5E
7i76E will probably need to be flashed with new firmware, might be already included on the Mesa website with the downloads for it.
7i83 and 7i84 do not need any flashing, they just work, but will need to be added in hal, most probably PncConf will get you very close to whatever you would need.

7i76E has ethernet lights and LED sequence, but no ping

Category: Driver Boards

It sounds like maybe it  has a connection issue from the FPGA to the Ethernet chip
(especially if the green LEDs don't count up when pinging the card)

Probably best returned to Mesa for repair/replacement

7i76E has ethernet lights and LED sequence, but no ping

Category: Driver Boards

Hi Peter, I do in fact get a green blink as it's attempting the ping.

JT, I checked for debris in the port and it's clear. I plugged and unplugged many times as you suggested.

Here's a picture of my board, just in case I'm doing something very dumb. Currently only have 5V bench supply to P3 and in the 192.168.1.121 setting.

7i76E has ethernet lights and LED sequence, but no ping

Category: Driver Boards

I've found that sometimes the RJ45 plug does not make good contact with the socket and plugging and unplugging a few times has always fixed that issue.

7i76E has ethernet lights and LED sequence, but no ping

Category: Driver Boards

Does the green LED on the RJ45 blink when you ping the card?

Its not likely an EEPROM issue as the FPGA will not load if there is a CRC
error in the FLash EEPROM image, and the Ethernet EEPROM  is not used
for anything but the MAC address when set for 192.168.1.121

7i76E has ethernet lights and LED sequence, but no ping

Category: Driver Boards

Yet another "no ping" thread.

I used this 7i76E on another machine for several months last year, then sat in unused for about a year, and now I'm trying to use the board again on another machine.

Followed all the wiring guidelines and diagrams found on the forum.

- Fresh LinuxCNC 2.8.4 Debian 10 Buster image
- Regulated 24V supply to TB1 and TB3 (W1 to the left) (5V measured at P3)
- Also tried 5V to P3 directly (W1 to the right)
- All jumpers to default positions
- Tried two different PCs, two different NICs, three different ethernet cables
- Upon power on, the INIT and DONE LEDs flash, followed by the USER LED back and forth sequence
- CR13 Amber LED is on
- Both ethernet lights are on

I setup NIC static IPs as necessary (192.168.1.100 or 10.10.10.11), confirmed with ip addr. No other network connections present. No ping to 192.168.1.121. Also tried W3 UP and 10.10.10.10 but didn't work.

Tried both primary and secondary FLASH select via jumper W9, didn't help

No card found to mesaflash --device 7i76e --addr 192.168.1.121 --readhmid & mesaflash --device 7i76e --addr 10.10.10.10 --readhmid

I read somewhere that the EEPROMs can "go empty" if sitting for a while. I have Segger J-Link Pro if I can somehow resurrect it if this could be the case.

I browsed the forum thoroughly and couldn't find any other tips. Thanks in advance.

7i76E input from common cathode integrated stepper

Yup. PED+ and PED- will not be connected.

Thanks again.

7i76E input from common cathode integrated stepper

PED is 'In Position'

Well, in that case the above schematics will cause a lot of trouble for poor users who try to stick to it.
In position that is active while the motor is not moving would cause a fault, preventing it from ever moving ! :)

7i76E input from common cathode integrated stepper

Category: Driver Boards

FWIW PED is 'In Position' (which I'm not planning on using or connecting to).

The inbuilt controller actually has ALM+, ALM-, PED+ and PED- connectors so I can ignore PED.

The diagram initially confused me and I mis-drew what I was thinking but your comments made me look again and it makes a bit more sense like so.

Thanks for the confirmation.

7i76E input from common cathode integrated stepper

Category: Driver Boards

This would be better, adding another resistor and having the two outputs separate, i have no idea what PED does, and having it disable the machine would not be nice. You can use just one resistor and one input if you do not need PED, whatever that is, (probably "drive OK?"), just cut the line in red.

7i76E input from common cathode integrated stepper

Category: Driver Boards

Sorry if this has been answered before. I did search but..... :-(

I have a stepper with an integrated driver being driven from a Mesa 7i76E in 'common cathode' mode (as per the diagram below). The 'common cathode' GND being the one from the stepper driver part of my 7i76E.

I'd like to attach the stepper's alarm signal to a 7i76E input.

My trusty multi-meter says that the stepper GND and Field GND are connected on the 7i76E and the VCC for the Alarm circuit would come from the field power 24V.

Can I do it like this without encouraging the magic smoke to escape?

This is where I am currently at with pings.

john@X3CNC:~$ sudo chrt 99 ping -i .001 -q 10.10.10.10
[sudo] password for john:
PING 10.10.10.10 (10.10.10.10) 56(84) bytes of data.
^C
--- 10.10.10.10 ping statistics ---
3999 packets transmitted, 3999 received, 0% packet loss, time 4019ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 0.155/0.465/4.010/0.116 ms

Hopefully I can get to spend some time on this tonight or tomorrow.
