That didn't work. I set it for Sans 24, and all that got bigger was the headers on the windows. The letter size on matchbox-keyboard was unchanged.
I found this page about Matchbox Keyboard 1.5 fork, and that was a possibility

It allows setting of the font and the font size. It would require that I install the forked version of Marchbox Keyboard. But I was not sure that I could pass it any parameters, since it's built in to the gmoccapy code.
I did find a fix for the font size, though. I' running Debian Wheezy with XFCE. I went to
Application Menu - Settings - Appearance - Fonts
I checked the box next to DPI, and set it to 96. My Default Font is Sans 10.
I now have big letters on matchbox-keyboard!
