WOW! What a supreme pain in the ass.
2 days later got new operating system running:
Debian Stretch /Cinnamon GUI LinuxCNC 2.8
Finally got LinuxCNC installed after about half a dozen hurdles.
Can't someone just make an image that has LinuxCNC working already?
Anyway my new challenge is getting all 5 Axis to work in Gmoccapy.
My new error is:

You need to review this line as pid.b is not loaded.
In the next few days, I think the devs will release 2.8 which will become the distribution versions so yes, it should be much simpler soon!
