I tried updating using the synaptic manager by hitting reload.
It downloaded new stuff I assume updates.
When I start GMOCCAPY now it still doesn't have A buttons.

I still can't get these jog buttons to appear.

You are still using the old version.
If you do update you should get 3.1.3.XX
How have you installed your linuxcnc?
If synaptic does not show updates fot linuxcnc, may be you haven't set the sources correct.

When I try to upgrade with synaptic package manager I get this:Could not download all repository indexes
The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct.
GPG error: linuxcnc.org stretch InRelease: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 3CB9FD148F374FEFThe repository 'linuxcnc.org stretch InRelease' is not signed.
I am trying to follow these directions:
