Changing modes on gmoccapy screen was created by john11668
Hi all
A bit of Backgound .
I have built and run a 3 axis mill on both Mach 3 and UCCNC.
Toward the end of last year I also converted a small Boxford TCL desktop lathe with new drivers and software and I have run it on Mach 3 (despite a bunch of limitations).
In an attempt to overcome the limitations on ratios, and screwcutting I am trying Linux CNC.

So I have installed Linux Mint along with its CNC element.
I have used stepconfig to generate a lathe profile using the Gmocappy screen and am in manual mode .
All is looking good . I can run the spindle and vary speed
I can jog slow and fast in both directions.
But I cannot seem to get into the auto screen , or the MDI screen to try running some code . The buttons for these functions are not illuminated so not available. I just cant see how to get them active .
So what am I missing????

While I am here, I have quite a few Gcode routines generated using wizards in Mach 3 previously.
Is it too optimistic to expect to them to run in Linux .
Thanks in anticipation,

John

Did you home the machine? Those modes wont be accessible until the machine is homed.

Video basic usage

Please take a look at that video, so handling will be much clearer.
And please do not shout on me, as that video is very old and the design has change a little bit. I willl need to make all my videos with an actual release

I was not shouting ,
I will own up to being a bit frustrated . Moving from Mach3 , It is a steep hill to climb and things are not intuitive until you have found the answer . I only got into this game about a year ago and Linux CNC within the last few weeks.

I actually did find the homing functions so am a bit further forward .
I will look at the video . See how I get on then .

Thanks

You will find out really quick, that open source have one big advantage:

You ask and you will get an answer.

The disadvantage is, that you may get several answers?

Have luck and enjoy gmoccapy

So having overcome that obstacle. and with the vids generally in multi axis mill mode whilst I am applying it to a lathe it is not always straight forward to apply the info there .
Foe example In lathe mode I have dual readout for radius and diameter and a simple instruction in code seems to be interpreted as a radius instruction if I use MDI. Can I place my software into diameter mode (which I generally prefer ) or do I have to switch using code

In lathe mode, gmoccapy will react to G7 G8 changes and the corresponding DRO will be highlighted or better told the none used DRO will have a Grey bagground. A klick on the axis letter however shout show the dialog to set a value to DRO and klick on the numbers of the DRO will toggle between absolut, relativ and distance to go mode.

File handling will be ecual for lathe or mill, what are the questions you have?
