Ive just really been working on the table and Y rails setup.
The Gantry and Riser plate is just there to tie it together for now.
Once I put all the hardware into the table ill start on the drive for the Y and then getting the X znd Z details in.

So we welded a M30 x 2mm nut on the inside of the bottom end cap for the leg and used M30 x 20 threaded rod for the adjustable leg. The base is 100mm dia 10mm thick lasercut steel. I turned the threaded rod down for 5mm so it was a press fit into the base and plug welded it from the bottom. a M30 half nut as a lock nut and its very solid.

I tried hard to get feet and casters to coexist but was never happy the arrangement would be rigid. So the casters come off to fit the feet.Hat you cant see in the pic is the mounting plate. Im guessingyour looking at the adjuster bolt that lowers the wheel. Thes normall sit on the pad and the wheel is only down to move it.

I will go with the leveling casters and if they work out great otherwise it's not hard to remove them and put in feet.
Probllay have some time to do some design work today.
Need to make some decisions on the x axis stepper mount.

Been doing some work on the ganrty design.
Opinions on mounting the stepper locations for the X and Y
Im looking at mounting the steppers at the end of the slides.
Seems to make sense for the Y lowering the gantry weight.
Not sure if it worth doing the same on the X axis.
What are everyones thoughts?

Steppers should be mounted as close to the rails/carriages as possible, keeps the mass near refference point, the overall result is less vibration.

Thnaks for that.
So mounting the Y stepers on the carrage using a single belt fixed at both ends is better then a looped belt with the stepper on one end.
In other words the higher overall weight of the garnty is less of a concern than the vibration in the belt.

Using reduction would be nice, direct driving the belt is also usable with microstepping drives.
