I got the command :
$ linuxcnc ~/linuxcnc/configs/<machine-name>.<machine-name>.ini
from the LinuxCNC pdf : LinuxCNC V2.8.0-pre1-5429-ga2c2f92e1, 2020-02-10 which opens from the LinuxCNC menu. Remember we are not Linux gurus, using the command line is confusing for us, however powerful the command line is.
To Phillc54 : your command
$ linuxcnc /home/plasma/linuxcnc/configs/plasma/plasma.ini
does get LinuxCNC started, thank you, although it terminates with an error in the plasma_connections.hal file, which states Pin '10' does not exist. I will look through the files to see what goes wrong there if I get a chance.

Oops, my dyslexia kicked in and I read that as P241. You are correct it is on P214.I got the command :
$ linuxcnc ~/linuxcnc/configs/<machine-name>.<machine-name>.ini
from the LinuxCNC pdf : LinuxCNC V2.8.0-pre1-5429-ga2c2f92e1, 2020-02-10 which opens from the LinuxCNC menu. Remember we are not Linux gurus, using the command line is confusing for us, however powerful the command line is.
So that equates to:To Phillc54 : your command
$ linuxcnc /home/plasma/linuxcnc/configs/plasma/plasma.ini
$ linuxcnc ~/linuxcnc/configs/plasma/plasma.ini.ini
That will be in /home/plasma/linuxcnc/configs/plasma/plasma_connections.haldoes get LinuxCNC started, thank you, although it terminates with an error in the plasma_connections.hal file, which states Pin '10' does not exist. I will look through the files to see what goes wrong there if I get a chance.

After a few tribulations we got our old machine running with the PlasmaC configuration. We still have to setup the THC and so on, but at least we can try out the PlasmaC controls on our old machine. Thank you all for your input so far.
Don't mind us if we come up with a few more questions in the near future !
Cheers, Tim & Peter
