THCAD selection including ohmic sensing

Also using a THCAD-10/5 for ohmic sensing will require a component I have written but its not yet published.

What? What does the component do? I bought two of the thcad-10 to use for this.

Are you going to release the component? Did I ask what the component does?

Ooops, I told a lie. I shared it here:
forum.linuxcnc.org/plasma-laser/37311-hy...hmic-sensing?start=0

What does it do? Well the THCAD only senses voltage but for probing we need a discrete on/off signal.
The THCAD is sensitive enough to see the voltage rise from 0 to 24 volt as the probe makes contact with the material
So we make use of this by setting an on voltage threshold and an off voltage threshold. I have mine set for 22 volt on and 1 volt off. This gives very good switch hysteresis to guard against false triggering.

What I have not shared is the additional hal file I used that unlinks a number of plasmac hal pins and connects this all up. my thinking was then that if Phill deployed this, he could just add an extra line in the ini file that installs the hal file. I'll put that up on the other thread.

I understand we need modified firmware to do this. I’ve seen it for the 7i76e, but I have the regular 7i76 with a 5i25. Is there firmware for this use case?

Also, you’re using a thcad-5 with a 24v power supply, correct? Any amperage recommendations? Sorry if this is redundant, I’m not sure I have a seen a hyper Ohmic sensing how to all in once nice package.

Meanwell have a nice 0.63 Amp 24 volt power supply that is isolated to 500 volt. Perfect match to the THCAD.
EDIT: Din rail mount for about $20

Thanks Rod! Any idea on the firmware?

On the mesa site on the 7i96 and 7i76e pages, there is a zip file that includes it. I think it ends in _pl.bit or something (pl = plasma)

Yea, those are both ethernet based cards.

I'm asking if it's possible/firmware exists with the 7i76 connected via a 5i25. I may have to wait for PCW to see this.

Pull down the zip file for the 7i76 and see if he's made it while you are waiting.

I did :)

I do see it for the Ethernet based cards, _plasma

But I don’t see it for the 7i76, unless I missed it.
