Upgrading from 30 to 45xp

I just bought a 45xp with machine torch and I’m wondering a few things. What do I need to have ready or ordered to switch from my 30XP to this 45xp. It’s been awhile since I posted about my build here. I tapped right into the power supply for voltage and start. I added resistors inside the main body and send the divided voltage to my thcad. Is it basically just a simple swap and locate the correct pins on the cpc port on the back for arc voltage and torch trigger? I was also hoping for a way to control the plasma amps from the plasmaC but I’m guessing g that will require incorporating the RS port. Thanks guys for any help or tips. I have gotten a TON of use out of the 30XP but it’s time to ditch it and step up to a more capable machine to handle our work load.

yes it is that simple, but might need minor adjustments while cutting.

Change to Plasmac mode 1
Connect one side of ArcOK on CPC to field power
Other side of ArcOK to an input (your ArcOK pin)
Use the start torch pins in the CPC
Assuming a THCAD-10:
Remove all scaling resistors
Change your divide ratio to 30:1 on the 45xp
Connect divided Arc voltage from CPC to the THCAD-10

Plasmac now supports the RS485. More info in the primer for hardware etc
linuxcnc.org/docs/devel/html/plasma/plas...rtherm_rs485_control
And in the Plasmac manual.

Just need to round up a cpc plug. I don’t want to pay the 80-100 for a plug with 25ft of cable. I don’t need that much cable as the plasma is right there on the inclosure.

The connectors are from TE Connectivity. Each piece including the pins are purchased seperately. The pins are designed to crimp on but the tool is expensive!

This might get you going searching for parts.

You need to get the backshell as well. I think this is it

You can probably use a generic W-crimper for uninsulated terminals.

looks promising.

I made the CPC connector from the part numbers listed by Jim Colt on cnc zone ( PINS ).

At any rate, no need to crimp them, I just soldered mine and it worked fine! I ordered his exact recommendations.

I would get some shielded cable if I were you, I found 6 conductor individually shielded (2 pair at a time) cable on ebay stupid cheap by dumb luck.

hope it helps

Just to add on, I made my own CPC cable as well. Here was the Digikey order I put in for the connector housing and the pins that I used.
