There is no reason to do a new ISO install, all you need to change is the LinuxCNC version.

Why would you want to do that, the only changes since 0.123 are for portrait mode Axis which you don't even use plus some documentation fixes.

Phill I want to set up another machine with a PPort

I have put 2.8 on it but would also like to put my own config on it as well so I can swap out the drive to my own machine in case it goes down.
that's why I asked is it just a mater of copying the machine config folder over.

Re:
[AXIS_Z]
MIN_LIMIT = -82
MAX_LIMIT = -4
are the limits OK as min and max being -ve as I have them. on my machine as they seem to work fine

Yeah Clive, just copy the config directory and edit to suit the parport. Oops, I read that wrong, you won't need to edit it as it is only as a backup.

The limits should work ok.

Put 2.8 on a new ssd Thanks Beagle forum.linuxcnc.org/9-installing-linuxcnc...ver-mint-iso?start=0

Nearly there copied the config over made a launcher the debug is looking for plasmac.tcl where would that be hiding ?

edit: I tracked it down it is hiding in the bowls of the system. So all the sim links did not copy over how do I solve that.

run the Configurator from where the source files are and do an upgrade. That will fix all links.

The same as here:
linuxcnc.org/docs/2.8/html/plasma/plasma...inuxcnc_installation

Thanks Phill that's magic all the links are back, So a max of 1 hour SSD flashed with Mr Beagles iso 2.8 updated it and copied the config folder over then used the Configurator to get the sim links back. :) :) :)

Phill re this:- forum.linuxcnc.org/plasma-laser/38918-my...ild?start=120#167918

Tom told me to do it as well, I think I am getting the same symptoms as I can be start cutting good for a few seconds then say its lost the arc. Do you think I should try and swap it around. If I remember. I would then have to touch the Z off at the slats then move it to the top.

[AXIS_Z]
MIN_LIMIT = -82
MAX_LIMIT = -4

[JOINT_1]
AXIS = Z
MIN_LIMIT = -82
MAX_LIMIT = -4

HOME = -5
HOME_OFFSET = 1

HOME_SEARCH_VEL = 10
HOME_LATCH_VEL = -2
HOME_FINAL_VEL = 5
HOME_SEQUENCE = 0

I don't see how Z axis values can affect Arc OK but ya never know ...

I did have a lost arc today, I set the Arc OK Low 5V lower and set Arc OK High to the max and didn't have an issue after that.

+1
On a side note, the issues i was having with Z stemmed form high velocity, as sometimes the axis would move past the limits set in ini, error and report, advise to fix limits and restart Linuxcnc, Any attempt to move any axis after this would bring another prompt saying "starting form beyond limits" but will not move any axis without restating Linuxcnc. Had the same issues with other axis while tuning stuff.
Now if i can find the original topic and add this there also.
