The 7I96 can have up to 4 hardware MPG counters, but each MPG steals 2 pins from
the 7I96's 11 inputs

Stupid question, If someone had a THCAD 300 and later realised there Cutmatic 45 (WIAs version of the Razor Cut 45) was a pilot arc and was having trouble finding the inverter output, could the add a resistor to each leg of a near 1M value and use it as a THCAD 10?
