Probe Test fails was created by CFE
Hi all,

We have migrated our plasma cutter from V2.8 with PlasmaC to V2.9 with QtPlasmaC. The machine is moving and homing no worries, I have setup homing as per QtPlasmaC guide. But Probe test is not working, the torch keep moving even after activation of the float switch. Single cut is also not working, and I tried a circle with conversational, but when I run that the torch finds the material, but then it throws an error saying the float switch is activated, program paused. Any idea what's is going on ?

Cheers, Peter

If probe test doesn't work then it is doubtful that any cutting would work correctly.

When you do a probe test does the float switch LED turn on when the material is sensed?

Was the migration done with the qtplasmac-plasmac2qt wizard?

Could you post the config backup from the backup button.

Hi Phil,

I have attached the backup files from the machine.

Meanwhile I did find that in the hal file the line:
# ---JOINT ASSOCIATED WITH THE Z AXIS---
net plasmac:axis-position joint.3.pos-fb => plasmac.axis-z-position
was previously at joint 2, I have changed as above. But probe test still not working.

It's probably something obvious but buggered if I know what it is. And I love your work, that QtPlasmaC looks fantatic !

You have four joints, two for X, one for Y, and one for Z which is joint3, so it should be joint.3.pos-fb

Mode 0 means you are using the arc voltage for a soft arc ok but you also have a parport pin for arc ok, if that is correct then you should be using Mode 1

You have a parport pin for arc voltage but there is no encoder set, I can see that is caused by a mistake I made in StepConf when using multiple parallel ports. You could copy this section into your hal file as a temporary fix. I will post a fix for this later today or tomorrow morning.
# ---ARC VOLTAGE ENCODER---
loadrt encoder num_chan=1
addf encoder.update-counters base-thread
addf encoder.capture-position servo-thread
setp encoder.0.counter-mode 1
setp encoder.0.position-scale 1
net plasmac:arc-voltage-raw encoder.0.phase-A
net plasmac:arc-voltage-in encoder.0.velocity

Do you have combined limit and home switches or just home switches.

Can you describe how the float switch LED behaves when you do a probe test.

I have pushed a fix for the encoder on parport #2

What ended up fixing this? When I Probe Test, I get the same results. My axis continues traveling down even after the floating switch is activated, then raises back up when the probing times out, but with no errors reported.

Same.

When I check my float switch activates and registered in the Hal check, but the float switch led doesn’t light up.

Did you add the input pin in hal ?
