Float switch must be different than Z home switch? was created by rick@cortexracing.com
I have a floating head and it is working properly with the home offset configured and such.  I thought I was ready to go through the PlamsaC config and everything in the docs made sense but once completed it gave me an error when I tried to launch saying my Z input was already used for home/limit.  It would seem to be redundant to put another switch on the Z axis

It does need separate switches for home and float, or use immediate homing for Z axis.
That does not need a switch for homing, but soon enough you will be putting one! :)

Thank you for the reply. I would really like to get it running and then I can make revisions later. The way I built the floating mechanism will require a design change to add a second switch. Can you help me with the syntax to do immediate Z homing? I'm assuming it's a change to the HAL file?

Here is some pictures and a quick video of where I'm at with it.  I've been stuck at this point for two days now trying to get the PlasmaC GUI to launch!

Home/limit switch has nothing to do with the float switch mechanics, it should be mounted at the top of your Z axis so it is triggered by the moving Z plate/torch holder.

Did you see the picture of my torch mount and the switch inside it?

Yes.
Home switch = top of z axis, not where the float is.

I understand now. Thank you for your patience! So basically what I built is a float switch and I need to add a home/limit switch.
