If you are going to build debs, you might like to look at what the etherlabmaster guys do. 
It lets you connect using normal sources.list entries. This sticky shows how to hook to an insecure repo

right now we are just trying to be able to get a working .deb installation file for gdebi or dpkg -i installation.. trying t figure out how to incorporate the qcompile is proving to be a bit tricky.  this being my first time ever making deb files and not sure on how many debs Turboss has done previously, but i think this particular flavor of requirement is new to him so we are poking and prodding but making slow progress.  if there are any seasoned deb builders out there.... we sure wouldn't mind some help!
