Yes I think that is the trouble...'jog' and the degree sign probably break qtvcp jog selection. I'll look at the code and see if I can make it behave better.
I assume those settings are used by something else?

The degrees, were there before, and I left them in, for the 4th axis I plan for future. I will take it out , if it will correct it for now ands try..

Finally getting around to testing these fixes... Seems to be working perfectly so far. I can enter negative values and I'm not getting any tool wear entries. Thanks Chris!

All I had to do was run in a terminal:
That installed the latest version of linuxcnc-uspace, along with a bunch of other unrelated updates. I did not have to modify any config files or do anything else.
Note that you'll need to be on the master version of linuxcnc for that to work. I.e. something like this in your /etc/apt/sources.list:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
