Probe Basic the GUI, (I agree - bad name) is not in the linuxcnc project - It's a separate project all together.
Probe basic the widget, is included in linuxcnc and is probably a knockoff of the above's probe screen.

I would argue the probe basic widget was here before probe basic GUI.
Probe basic GUI started it's life after the "brendaEM" "incident", while i recall the widget being here before that in conjunction with "verseBY" or something similar.
Then again, i might be wrong....

Not sure what you mean by 'here'? Here as on the forum?
The probe basic GUI came first but as I said, is a separate project from linuxcnc.
This was after Kurt decided to start his own project rather then work on qtvcp.
Then basic probe (just the probe part) was 'ported' to linuxcnc's qtvcp project.
There is also a similar situation with versa probe.
Being linux based, there is always multiple direction to take, with often confusing names

I'll have to test it specifically to be sure, but I do believe it is functional.
I did see a place for improvement in the future. When testing the round boss probing, I noticed that
the back off (step off) setting is not taken into account when probing the opposite side.
I had set the back off very large .5 inch and then it would not move to the other side quite enough.
When I have more time I will test more and add to the docs.

This looks great! I thought Max Z distance was not implemented though, did that change?\

What was the brendaEM incident you are referring to?
