Chris

I'm just using the default x1 for this but good to know for down the road.

I've finished moving all the other inputs over and they are all working again. Tomorrow I'll get the outputs moved over and then I can work on getting the spindle and it's encoder connected which is what started all of this in the first place.
Simulating a VFD / encoder on the bench is proving to be a lot more work than I originally thought.

To get the variable voltage, you set up the TB2 PWM output for spindle use in pncconf
The 7I96S manual shows the TB2 pinout of the analog output

7I96S Spindle + goes to a 10 or 12V supply (on a VFD this comes from the VFD itself)
7I96S Spindle out is the 0--10V analog voltage that goes to the Drives VIN
7I96S Spindle- goes to the drives COM pin and the negative pin of the 10 or 12V supply

unfortunately i dont have that info hand. it is probably in the tc229 thread.

These are parameters that apply to normal high speed encoders:

#setp hm2_7i96s.0.7i84.0.0.enc0.counter-mode 0
#setp hm2_7i96s.0.7i84.0.0.enc0.filter 1

Not sserial devices

There is a count mode parameter for sserial MPG counters so you can choose 1x mode or 4X mode

@TAKUYA
@Atsu

please check the value of the parameters lcec.0.pll-step
You can do so with this command

halcmd show param lcec.0.pll-step

This parameter will be set at 1000 automatically if you have RTAPI_TASK_PLL_SUPPORT

also I have updated again the repo

if you could be so kind as to download, build and test again, thank you

I went to make what should have been a 29.534mm hex bolt, however it came out very off spec. I've no real idea why.

• what it was supposed to be - imgur.com/a/6chSepJ
• how it came out - imgur.com/a/6r5prsT
  • note the 'bump'
  • didn't come out to dimension
• video link -
  • it had three points holding it, and i did two that both came out the same, which makes me believe it is the cnc config not work holding
• the configs -  github.com/vetsin/linuxcnc-pm30/tree/scr...d-probe/configs/PM30

I did go through the process of checking backlash and ensuring my velocity was alright a long time ago -- but honestly it's been a very slow project and I forget what I did. Any ideas what the reason for the problem could be? What should I check first?

@RODW,

Have you tried Ventoy?

I've tried a number of tools and the only one that has never let me down is balena etcher. It even works with raspberry pi images!

(Just realized I posted this into general instead of under boards, maybe I can get someone to move it.)

I got just the encoder itself moved over to the 7i84u
#net jog-counter <= hm2_7i96s.0.encoder.00.count
is now
net jog-counter <= hm2_7i96s.0.7i84.0.0.enc0.count
and it's working as it should

But these lines don't seem to work anymore or I'm referencing them incorrectly
#setp hm2_7i96s.0.7i84.0.0.enc0.counter-mode 0
#setp hm2_7i96s.0.7i84.0.0.enc0.filter 1
From what I'm reading those don't exist on the 7i84u in mode 2
Something I need to do some other way or something I don't need to worry about ?

@RODW,

Have you tried Ventoy?
