So That Happened was created by my1987toyota
  Well that was an interesting weekend. At first I thought either this forum got hacked or the server crashed. A lot of people on YouTube talking about
how Sam Altman thinks everyone's computer is wasting ram that should be his. And I finally try local AI.
So tommylight suggested I try LM Studio and local AI, And what do you know my laptop can run QWEN 3.5 9B without much problem.
unfortunately I run out of memory real quick. My laptop has an rtx5060 8gb vram and 16gb regular ram. My desktop has the same ram levels
just with older hardware.
  I may end up getting a few sticks of DDR4 to put in my desktop to give me more headroom since bigger graphics
cards are way too expensive , not to mention Nvidia is basically removing the 5090 and 5080 from the lineup. As I understand it regular
ram works fine for AI its just slower. Since at least in the US you can get 128gb of DDR4 for under $2000 (though I will probably just go with 64gb)
I would say it's a better buy then any top tier graphics card. Plus it gives Sam Altman and Jensen Huang both the middle finger.

a lot of changes since i last posted. as my father has passed away (as of April 2006), i have taken over his shop.
This has been a blessing and a curse... as it was left is a very cluttered state, and needed much cleaning to get my machine into it. In order to get the machine in, i had to strip it down to the bare machine again, and detach the machine from the base. we than carried the base and the machine over to the new shop, and both had to be tipped on edge to fit through the doorway. But as can be seen in the above picture from June... we got it into the shop.

Then came the task of completely rewiring the machine to the original schematic, so the existing configs would still work. there is still much to do, but it works again.

i did not like the pathetic flow from the stock spindle cooling fan... so i ducted in some air from a blower that is more than triple the CFM of the stock unit sitting on the gantry beam.

I did have automatic tool changing setup and working well... but i did not like that it took up so much space out of the work-area, so i removed the rack in favor of rapid manual changing.

At present, i seem to be having many mental and physical health issues, so progress has stagnated down to a cobweb collecting halt. i hope to be able to return to this though, but i just wanted to update my post here, providing JT doesn't change the forum again and lose this post image missing /media/kunena/emoticons/24.png

Hallo zusammen,

erst einmal vielen Dank für eure Antworten!

@tommylight

I downloaded LinuxCNC 2.9.10 Debian 13 Trixie PREEMPT-RT ISO and ran the live version on my Windows 11 laptop, I used Gparted to partition the disk. I then rebooted to do the installation. The partitioner in the installation program would not recognize the internal disk I had just partitioned. I also tried the text based installer it didn't recognize the disk and it's partitions either. It there a version that will install available?
thanks
bill a.

Yeah the menus need work, I was just glad after 4 attempts to get it up and running on a modern OS and Joomla and Kunena. It took a few tries to figure out the steps for each thing due to restrictions with PHP and versions of Joomla and Kunena. And WOW I just noticed the spell checker works now!

Been seeing this for the last two days, notice the guest number, lowest i have seen it was a smidge over 4000, and i am sure those are no humans, well not all of them, some are for sure.
Checked the attachments and everything seems fine, statistics seem fine except profile views that are very low, the main menu renders vertically for me, i can reply quote and edit posts, will add avatar and edit profile in a bit.
JT, thank you, you have been magnificent.

Got the Ryzen 7 7700 for 215 Euro, ASRock B650M-HDV/M.2 mainboard for 120, and ... drum roll please 96GB of DDR5 5200 RAM for 146 Euro!!!

Good times, never again, only that 96GB of RAM is now well over 2000 Euro!!!
Bad times, that PC was today in my shop, the owner moved it to another city and somehow moved the very small switch on the GPU that switches BIOS'es from silent to overclocked and got stuck between not booting at all or booting and rebooting at random short intervals. Easy fix...for the PC, not for me as i sold it a while back!

It took several tries to migrate from where we were to where we are now but AFAIK everything works except the user avatars.

It needs some tweaking but it's beer thirty here in Swamp East Missouri.

Thanks a lot for your immediate help! That has solved the problem and I can go ahead with the rest of the project.
By the way, I have changed a bit the PID parameters, which has improved the situation, but did not solved it.
FF1 = 1
FF=0.02
MAXOUTPUT=30000
(1000 rpm and high acceleration of 5500 works now)

16 usec is fine but 2067 usec isn't. I would use a different PC but try the -nobase switch Tommy and I shared first.

Great. Looks like you could break this up with a complex entry for each input
          <pdoEntry idx="6000" subIdx="01" bitLen="16" halPin="DI-bit" halType="bit"/>

eg
Code:
<pdoEntry idx="60FD" subIdx="0" bitLen="32" halType="complex"> <complexEntry bitLen="1" halPin="CW-limit" halType="bit"/> <complexEntry bitLen="1" halPin="CCW-limit" halType="bit"/> <complexEntry bitLen="1" halPin="in-home" halType="bit"/> <complexEntry bitLen="13"/> <complexEntry bitLen="1" halPin="in-1" halType="bit"/> <complexEntry bitLen="1" halPin="in-2" halType="bit"/> <complexEntry bitLen="1" halPin="in-3" halType="bit"/> <complexEntry bitLen="1" halPin="in-4" halType="bit"/> <complexEntry bitLen="1" halPin="in-5" halType="bit"/> <complexEntry bitLen="1" halPin="in-6" halType="bit"/> <complexEntry bitLen="10"/> </pdoEntry>

So tried lcec.activate, but that results in an error that activate isn't a valid command.

Should be:
Code:
initf lcec.activate servo-thread
YOu need to have the latest ethercat driver installed together with ethercat from that repo not from iGh

Here you go
ethercat_conf.xml = my known good config for Lichuan 4 axis open loop drive. Yours should be the same, just one less axis
ethercat_gen.xml is the lcec_configgen generated file. nice and short. When you get your xml working, raise an issue at  github.com/linuxcnc-ethercat

Reference this earlier issue #474  github.com/linuxcnc-ethercat/linuxcnc-ethercat/issues/474

install just your Drive on the ethercat bus and share these files:
ethercat pdos > pdos.txt
ethercat sdos > sdos.txt
ethercat slaves -v > lichuan.txt

Hopefully grandixximo will add support for your drive too. I think it probbaly just needs a tweak to the driver to support < 4 axes
