7I92T config for 8 encoders, 5 PWMgens, and one stepgen

Wasn't sure if you needed DIR on the PWMs so two of the PWMgens are
PWM only (no dir) due to  pin limitations, can easily change if needed.

Hi everyone,

I just received my Omron NX-ECC201 today. The first thing I did was verify that it works, and I couldn't resist playing around with it a bit—I successfully toggled the LEDs on the output module directly from a Linux terminal via EtherCAT.

Now I am planning the next steps for my machine setup. I need to process an encoder signal, and after doing some research, it seems that the NX-EC0222 or NX-EC0122 modules would be the best fit since they support differential signals.

However, my current machine encoder operates on a 5V TTL signal. This leaves me with two main options:

1. Convert the 5V TTL signal up to 24V single-ended.
2. Convert the 5V TTL signal into a differential signal to feed it directly into the NX-EC0222.

I am leaning towards the second option (differential) because I feel it is much more noise-immune and future-proof for upcoming retrofit projects.

I would really appreciate your advice on choosing the best Omron module for this setup to help me narrow down my search.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks , so I will not use emoticons jejeje.

So, follow up:
I will install as soon as possible the last version from...  instructions buildbot.linuxcnc.org/

so maybe errors are already corrected...

In the meantime, I'm attaching the gcode as modified by the "convers" in my QtPlasmaC. I saw I don't have the original produced by SheetcamTNG, I saved this on that one, so I only have this one (that is the one I was using).

About the error n 2, the "cutting in the air", while finishing the job (it's for a cantilever in my "borning shop"), I discovered the error is
when I press my custom button "Goto last X0Y0" before the Z axis finishes to reach the "idle height" after finishing a cut.
The button is a G0 X0 Y0 only (or it has Z0 as well? I have to check).
If I wait the Z axis to be at the idle height before pressing that button, the next cut properly works.

Bye, thanks,
have a nice day!

It did not attach the gcode, so I put it here:

Interesting to see someone working in a similar direction! I’ve recently done something similar with my linuxcncMulti project. My version is already running and available to test online.

It remains compatible with existing LinuxCNC configurations and supports a large part of Siemens NC syntax, including transformations and measuring cycles. It also includes material removal simulation.

A more polished visualization using Godot is currently in development.

You can try it here: www.cnc.gmbh

Would be interesting to exchange ideas and compare approaches!

Yeah, our editor gets flummoxed by smileys, so it does not show anything after those.

Hi :)

thanks Tommylight for moving the thread to the correct forum section, I thought I posted it to the PlasmaC section but I mistook posting it to the general section image missing /media/kunena/emoticons/unsure.png

Thanks Snowgoer540, I will post/attach the gcode as soon as I get to the machine: I have the original gcode produced by SheetcamTNG and the modified gcode I saved by the QtPlasmaC I was actually using.

I think about one month ago' I installed the LinuxCNC last version downloaded from linuxcnc.org (Current release: 2.9.10) because the one I got was skipping some hole parts (I found a post about it)... I thought it included the last version of QtPlasmaC.

So if I understand the one included is not the last version, so I would like to install the correct one.
How can I install the last QtPlasmaC version? And, I did not understand, are there two locations where QtPlasmaC is?
Where is the most recent one and how to install it please?

Thanks to all in advance! :)

Alberto.

Thank you! :)

Muzzer how problematic has it been to vibe code programs. I am thinking of trying it on a few ideas
I have floating around in my head. I have been learning Python coding but it has been a frustrating
journey to say the least. I'm also using Raspberry pi zero 2w so that may have something to do with it
And as luck would have it I am thinking of using Claude Code.

1) without your gcode it’s hard to tell what’s going on.

For the others, I would say that development for the qtplasmac in 2.9 stopped in August of 2024. Any and all bugs that have been brought up since have been addressed in 2.10.

It’s one of the unfortunate parts of the project that releases take years between versions. So much has changed in QtPlasmaC between version 2.9 and 2.10 that maintaining bug fixes in both locations for QtPlasmaC was not something I wished to spend my time doing.

Before he retired from the project, Phill rewrote a lot of the conversational code so I would imagine your issue has been solved in 2.10.

Thank you so much, that's excellent news.
The pinout doesn't matter since I will be soldering the cable myself.
I'm planning to use an EtherCAT setup with discrete I/O modules, so I mostly need the encoder functions on the Mesa card.
Could you please make the firmware with 8 encoders, 1 stepgen, and the remaining pins as PWM? I would need it for both the 7I92 and 7I92T, but the 7I92T is the priority since I have two of them. Any pinout layout works fine for me.
Thank you in advance!

Hi everyone,

I came across a piece of CNC controller hardware running LinuxCNC. Does anyone recognize this setup or know who makes it?

I checked the system over SSH and found:

- Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5 Rev 1.0
- 2 GB RAM and 16 GB eMMC
- Debian 12 Bookworm
- LinuxCNC 2.9.3
- PREEMPT_RT kernel: 6.6.54-rt39
- CPU configured to run at 1.8 GHz
- Realtek RTL8111/8168 Ethernet controller using the ec_r8169 EtherCAT driver
- EtherCAT master 1.5.2
- WCH USB device (1a86:5537) using a custom ch37x driver, with /dev/ch37x0
- PCF8563 RTC
- Connected touchscreen

The EtherCAT master is detected, but its link is currently down and no slaves are connected.

Does this look like a known commercial controller or a custom carrier board? I would appreciate any information about its manufacturer, model, hardware revision, or available documentation and LinuxCNC configuration files.

Thanks!

Sure, it's possible, a 7I92X has 34 I/O pins so could have as many as 11 normal encoders
Do you have a desired pinout?

Quick update.
After some suggestions from ChatGPT, lcec_configgen worked by using the full /usr/bin/lcec_configgen command.

The resultant XML doesn't work, but it's given me a starting point which I can work with.
