ASUS E45M1-M PRO Latency Issues

Just a couple of thoughts

There is a serial/parallel port PCI card which is not used (no driver loaded),

There are no drivers anyway, try removing it so it is not allocated an interrupt and see if it makes any difference.

If it does try it in another slot

Blurb makes great play of ASUS Fan Xpert which sounds like a recipe for unwanted low level activity.
Can you just turn it all off and have the fan at a fixed speed the whole time?

Try the kernel parameter nohalt with and without isolcpus=1, can reduce latency caused by interrupt idle/sleep

regards

I'll tell my buddy to try your ideas as soon as he's back in business :)

Thank you, I'll keep you informed.

best regards

Todd,

I'm running this board on my plasma and the latency is not that great but I never get a real time error when running LinuxCNC. I don't have a clue if the latency test has a bug or not but there seems to be no problems running LinuxCNC.

I picked up one of these to replace an atom board on a machine that needs a fast servothread. Peter said that he had one running a 4-5khz thread. I can't even get it to run 2 without realtime errors. That is worse than I was getting with the atom.

Peter, are you using the vga plug or the dvi plug for the video? I wonder if that might matter? I've disabled everything I can find in the bios and getting latency spikes in the mid to high 30Ks.

I am using a vga monitor and a PS2 KB/USB mouse
even 40 usec should allow a 4 KHz servo thread without error ( 40 usec < 20% of 250 usec)
so I think something else else it going on here

I am also using a ps2 KB, USB mouse, vga monitor, The only other stuff plugged into the computer is a 5i25/7i77 a SATA HD and a DVD drive.

Any other suggestions for tracking down the source of my affliction?

Can you capture the dmesg when you get a real time error so the actual timing can be determined?

I wish the real time delay logic message had some more knobs like 'dont_disable_check after_first_time, or Maximum_Tolerance_in_uS. it kind of sucks as a diagnostic tool, as does the latency test since the latency test does no I/IO

My latency is 18,000 to 20,000 with that board with the latency test, running a pcie video card, ps2 keyboard, USB mouse and joystick SATA HD and DVD drive and using G Skill #F3-12800CL9D-2GBNQ DDR3-1600 1024Mb x 2 memory CL 9-9-9-24 1.5V.
