Hi John,

When I load your "gearchange.clp" into classic ladder, I don't see any signal paths. Do you have a tip for me please?

I will post my configuration, with only 5i25-7i77 to test this, if it works in your pc than we will find what is wrong with the other.

Just a question about putting the 7i77 in mode 3 to read the jog wheel encoder. Do I need to put the following command into my machine.HAL file, or is this a sticky setting which I only need to send to the 7i77 once, and it remains in that mode despite restarts?
loadrt hm2_pci config="sserial_port_0=300xxx"

It needs to be permanently in the HAL file.

Also bear in mind that the 7i84 has a couple of MPG counters too, when put in the right mode. It is possible that they might be more convenient to wire to (or not)

Thanks Andy, the 7i84 will mount on the door or the control cabinet directly under the MAHO relay board, so it will be more convenient to the interface the encoder to the 7i77, although I am also tempted to get a 7i73 and mounted that at the control panel to reduce the amount of 5m wiring between the control panel and the control cabinet. It looks like with a bit of 5i25 hardware config, I could run a 7i73 Sserial connection directly into a couple of the unused pins on the 5i25 internal pinhead connector.

Still, that is secondary. At present I need to concentrate on getting the current boards wired up to the MAHO and get the various systems cnfigured in the HAL and Ini.

John, Thanks for your updated config files. What aspect of your 600E are you currently working on?

I am currently working on the encoder mounting. Two of the encoders will go to the back of the motors, after the tachometer and, at the y axis because there is not enough room insight the casting I will put it at the pulley side.

Nice workmanship.

Is there any performance concern if I comment every line of my HAL file? I am guessing that a bloated HAL is no problem, as it is only read once, andI really want to build my current knowledge into my HAL as I expect in 2 years to have forgotten everything.

You are correct, you can write as many comments as you want in the HAL file with no penalty.

You might also want to consider creating a graphical plot of the HAL file, which is something that Rockhopper can do.

Every time we start the machine we have to home it, how is this done? The limit switches once triggered the machine goes off.
