If by that you mean Ubuntu 8.04, then that does confirm that the problem is the LAPIC. you probably won't be able to go any further up the Ubuntu versions than 8.04, but you should be OK with EMC2 up to version 2.6 at least, and you should have no trouble upgrading to 2.4.7 now and 2.5 when it is released.

If going to 10.04 was really an issue, search the forum and you will find that others have been able to compile EMC and RTAI to work on some computers that have had similar problems. Not easy going.
Again it you do not need to don't worry about it for now.
