I don't normally use stepconf, but if you tell it you have 2 parports

It will show a dialog for the first one

and then the second one

Your port addresses are probably going to be 0xddc0 and 0xdde0.

Which one is the fly lead port from the header and which the port at the board edge connector is less certain,
very often however the port connected via the fly lead is the lower number.

Dennis:

What version of linuxcnc are you using?
prior to 2.7 You can select more then one parport but the signals for the second one can only be used manually by editing the HAL file.
The selection only added the command to load the second parport.

in 2.7+ you can now select signals as Arceye has shown.

Chris is right of course.

I only use RIPs, usually of the master, I had assumed the stepconf changes were backported to 2.6, but apparently not.

I can use ptest to activate/read one port which is all I need.

If you find you do need to use the second parport, we can always assist you with the extra lines in your hal file, rather than trying to
upgrade to 2.7 for the sake of it.

Thank you for that nugget of info.

I am using ubuntu 10.04 with linuxcnc 2.5 installed from a live cd.

I appreciate the help and the offer to assist with manual configuration. Going with version 2.7 is the best route for me.
