Replaced the nvidia you with an ati one and I'm under 50k max latency. Going to try to dedicate a core or 2 . Well I'm going to try anyway.

made some progress. played with isolating cores. switched back to my older pc (onboard GPU) which i built for my cnc but was getting over 200k latency. isolated a core and was around 13k..... added the parallel port PCI card in.... 200k

looks like the parallel port PCI card is my bottleneck.

can someone suggest a PCI or PCI express parallel port card? links?

What version of linuxcnc are you using?
How did you install the parallel port card?

Have you tried reducing the acceleration yet?

movement acceleration wise is better now that i reduced my accel to 4. however at really slow speeds i moves with a pulse as in the videos. no smooth motion. move stop move stop move stop. so its not that its slow its that its pulsing.

version of linux cnc is that latest on the web site. i think it was the February release.
as for installing the card i just physically installed it in to the PCI slot on the motherboard.

Which videos?

If you put a halmeter on stepgen.N.counts, do the counts increase between pulses, or is it a pulse every time the count increments?

Yes. It allows you to watch the values of individual HAL pins (and signals and params).

In the Axis GUI it is available from the "Machine" menu. In other GUIs it might be in a menu, to it might not.

You can start it in any GUI from the command-line with "halcmd loadusr halmeter"

There is also Halscope that lets you plot pin values against time, (HAL - Osciloscope) which can be a useful tuning tool.
