Yes, www.bodgesoc.org/lathe/lathe.html

However, as I have been saying in another thread, there are rather neater and better ways to achieve that functionality in newer versions of EMC2 (GladeVCP, NGCGUI)

I now seem to have what is a basically functional machine, but my motors seems to whine/buzz even when
the software is doing nothing.

Tried a different LPT cable, but it didn't make much difference.

I've found that:

Removing LPT cable stops the noise.
If motors are disabled, it seems to stop the noise.

Any clues on this one?
TIA

remember steppers are energised when stationary , so are drawing current , could be your tuning is slightly off , or the stepper drives are running at too high a rate of microstepping that the motors and your pc are happy with

Mine do too.

The motor are still drawing full current when stationary, but possibly at quite a low PWM duty cycle. I think that is probably enough to create noise.

In other words, don't worry about it.

thanks-
Ok maybe I can keep the motors disabled when not running a job- assuming that will stop it.

Is it possible to set a 'motor enable' LPT pin for each axis?

I turn mine off (second from left button). I have all the amp-enables for the drivers wired to one output pin.

wiring to one pin sounds a good idea for now.
However, having used steppers in other projects which didn't have this issue
I'd like to get rid of the noise if poss.

Almost there...

except everything comes out half-size :(

If I manually jog the machine it moves correctly (i.e x1 y1 moves x 1", y1") but the Axis display shows it
moving twice as far.

All my .conf numbers seem to be correct-I guess if they were wrong x1 etc wouldn't move 1 inch.

TIA

How far does it move from X0 when you put G0 X1 in the MDI window?
