Hi,

I have good news today.

A debian distro with preinstalled :

Linuxcnc
Linuxcnc-ethercat
Ethercat-master
Freecad 3d
Librecad 2d
Libreoffice
Deepin-terminal
Qt-creator c++

Ethercat is configured at boot time, so no worries if you pass your cloned hdd into another pc. It will run anyway.

This distro is build up from the bootstrap. There is 800Mib OEM space left.
This release was a few day's work because off extensive work to get everything in the /opt/
Every program has it's own system menu launcher, even the freecad appimage.

During installation keep root entry & passwd empty.

Hi

LInuxcnc is in /opt/ , this is a dev version.
If you want to install another linuxcnc-dev. You can visit this for ./configure options.

Have fun !

I’m trying this out booting from a USB and I’m getting and error hd0 not found and vmlinuz is missing.

I checked and vmlinuz is in the live directory not boot.

I’m a Linux newb, so I’m still learning. Should I modify grub?

Hi,

This is a message that is serious. This is not easy to solve. Replacing a few files inside the iso could fix it. If it was a very expensive
piece of software, we could do that. But in this case, it's faster to test something other :

Try to download and install dvd . If this succeeds, try to download the iso you want to install again. It's possible trough a corrupt download operation. You are using Amd64 and not Arm i suppose.

I was able to get that image to boot with no issues.

I did end up having to manually mount the USB drive as a CDROM using mount /dev/sda /cdrom but then it worked ok and is installing now.

Looks like we didn’t quite get to the finish line. The image you provided wouldn’t install/update grub.

@ CNC4life,

I googled on the grub error, there's a lot info about this error. Some say it has to do with bios, partioning, etc.

At the moment i don't know how you can solve this. Have to study this error first.
I tested the version on dvd, not on usb.

@ Scotth,

You mean the sourcforge direct download? I mentioned last time it was hard to get the download running.
Or do you mean something else?

I have an idea. You both can test a new distro today.
On my pc it installed 2 times with succes. I am curious if this release will work at your pc's.
Will bring a new topic about the upcoming release in a few minutes.

The image with grub/not mounting the USB is: cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/bullseye_di_a...pha3-amd64-DVD-1.iso

I was able to get the LinuxCNC-2.8.0.iso issue installed and I was able to backport to the 5.10 kernel which fixed my video issue with X.
